Conversations With a 12-Year Old

Today, strictly for entertainment purposes, I’d like to share some electronic conversations I have had with my youngest child.  Last year, for his eleventh birthday, his father and I decided to buy him an iPhone (don’t get all judgmental on me here, people. It cost us a penny.)  Naturally he was ecstatic and immediately launched into text messages with us and all those who inhabit his world (you know, people like his siblings, his best friend, his grandparents, his teachers, his golf coach. You get the picture.)  Because I like all of you so much, I believe you deserve the opportunity to catch a small glimpse at the exciting events that occur in my life on a daily basis. Misery likes company, you know.

Here, for your edification and, I’m sure, sheer delight, are a few conversations I’ve had with The Kid since he acquired a smart phone.

Sent to me while I was downstairs when he stayed home, "sick", and was up in his room.

Part 1 of 2 (see below). A charming attempt to get some extra cash out of me.

Part 2. As you can see, it didn't work, and I kept my promise.

What I received when I requested some ideas for Christmas gifts. For the record he did NOT get a new iPhone. Or any candy.

As you can see, he is quite the character.  What funny/interesting/unexpected notes or texts have you received from your offspring? Are they worth repeating? Are they G-rated - or am I the only one who has to worry about censuring correspondence I receive from my boys?  Let me know your thoughts down in the comments section below!

  1. Billy and I follow each other on Instagram. I'm THAT cool.

  2. I'm not worthy.

  3. My 12 yo daughter texted me the other day after school and said, "Kitchen stinks. So I cleaned it." AWESOME. I didn't have the heart to tell her it was just the trash that needed to be emptied. :D

  4. LOL, Cindy - that IS a great text to receive! And kudos to her for taking the initiative to fix the problem! :-)

  5. Love your boys! They have been entertaining since the day you brought them home. And what 12 yr old is so detailed about his golf needs . . Right down to the degree of loft & the type of shaft?! And asks for golf clothes for presents! Tiger probably when he was that age. You'd better save that Dawn. You're going to need to show that when you're interviewed on the Golf Channel!

  6. LOL, Tina, I know, right? You'll have to tell Trevor his little protege is taking off! He cracks me up on a daily basis....
