I don’t know how many of you have read the tagline under my
blog header (go ahead, read it now if you like), but I need to draw your
attention to one element I feel I have been neglecting lately: Wellness.
When I first designed the header I consulted my friend (and public
relations specialist extraordinaire), Marilyn Six, for suggestions on what
direction I should take my blog. As I
suspected, she was incredibly helpful and offered a tremendous amount of
insight, not the least of which being the tagline for my blog.
Essentially, this tagline provides certain topics for me to
draw inspiration from in my writings and gives the visitor a quick synopsis of
what he can expect when he stops by here.
Since I like to write about life in general - and often more
specifically, life in Joplin - we thought it would be a good idea to label this
a “lifestyle” blog.
While I love providing ideas and examples of ways we can
help improve our communities, I also know that we must first take care of
ourselves before we can embark on projects to help others. We need to eat properly to fuel our bodies
and our minds, exercise regularly to maintain a healthy fitness level, meditate
or otherwise engage our spirituality to help maintain our focus, and make sure
all our other basic – and, hopefully, our intermediate – needs are being met in
order that we may function at our highest level possible and thus achieve
optimum performance as human beings.
I have decided to introduce a new series, “Wellness
Wednesdays”, where I will share ideas on how we can pursue our own wellness goals
and how our health contributes to our overall success. In order to effectively do this, though, I
need your help. I am a firm believer in
the importance of healthy lifestyle habits and I think reading professional
tips and research would be beneficial to all of us and, hopefully, will provide
further encouragement for setting and maintaining goals for healthy living.
Therefore, I am seeking contributions from professionals in the areas of
health, fitness, wellness, self-image, etc.
If you, or someone you know, are knowledgeable in any of these fields
(or similar), please feel free to contact me.
I would love to feature guest posts that provide useful information
about how we can keep ourselves healthy.
If you would like to be considered for a feature here on “Since
You Asked – Wellness Wednesdays”, please send your article of 1,000 words or
less to dhsticklen@gmail.com. If I decide to use your post, I will contact
you and provide you a date that your piece will go live on the blog. I will, of course, also promote your article
through my various social media outlets (Twitter, Facebook, LinkdIn, Google+) –
and I will ask that you also do the same through your own outlets. I would also like a brief bio so, you know,
we can all get to know you a little better.
As always, thanks for reading, and I look forward to your
contributions. This blog only gets
better with interaction from you, the reader, and I am excited to add yet
another element that will provide valuable information to help improve the
quality of life for ourselves and those around us!

Great idea, Dawn, and well said. I'll look forward to Wellness Wednesdays!
ReplyDeleteAn aside - I just saw a preview for a documentary that looks pretty interesting. "Yogawoman" - the story of yoga being a traditionally male practice that wasn't open to women, and what a powerful outlet it's been for Western women. Might be tough to find a place where it's showing, but I thought you might enjoy the message:

Hope all's good for you and you get some great submissions!
Thanks, Tele - I'm looking forward to reading these posts, too! I'm going to see if I can find the documentary - sounds very interesting. Thanks for sharing!
ReplyDeleteGood luck! Will tweet'cha!
