Matisyahu and Music

OK, I know the letter for today is supposed to be “L”, and no, I’m not skipping it.  It’s just that it's Friday the 13th and of course things aren't going as planned, so I’m gonna improvise here and switch things around.  Guess you’ll have to keep coming back so you can see that fabulous “L” post I’m planning….

Today I’d like to share with you one of my favorite musical artists, Matisyahu.  As with most new artist finds for me these days, Matisyahu was introduced to me by my daughter a couple of years ago, right before his album, “Light”, was released.

What?  A Hasidic Jew who performs reggae and hip-hop and does some serious beat boxing?  What kind of nonsense is this?  Well, it’s actually just a guy who brings a message to the world through his music, and isn’t that exactly what art is supposed to do?

Here I am including the video for Matisyahu’s hit song, “One Day”, which was used by NBC to promote the 2010 Winter Olympic Games.

I hope you enjoy Matisyahu’s music as much as I do!

Who is your favorite philanthropic musician?  Have you heard Matisyahu's music before?

    1. Kimberly, this is one of those songs I can listen to over and over again. The music and lyrics are so hopeful, and I love it! His whole album, "Light", is like this - songs about unity and love. I think it's just great. :-)

  4. Are you trying to rearrange the alphabet? It doesn't matter. I'm visiting early Saturday morning, so it's the right letter as far as I am concerned.

Visiting for the A to Z Challenge. We're doing guest post writing tips.

  7. It's so funny -- being Jewish, we all know Matisyahu! He is fabulous and I saw him in concert, which was even more amazing! I'm so glad you were introduced to his music. And music is truly the international Language. {Did you see what I did there... with your L?} ;-)

    1. Renee, my husband thinks I'm nuts (and he's the Jewish one in the household! Well, half at least), but I think Matisyahu's music is great! So it gives me great pleasure to read all these positive comments on this post! (Take that, Hubs!) I bet he would be great to see in concert - my niece saw him a while back in Philly and loved him!
