So, here we are at Week 2 of the Holiday Season and Pay it Forward Mondays. Last week I talked about the fun of buying a drink for someone ususpecting. However, you don't have to spend your money to pay it forward. Think about it for a minute: what would the world be like if, instead of criticizing others, we offered compliments to them? I'm not suggesting you be facetious - no one likes a suck-up. However, you know that feeling you get when someone notices your smile or hair or that great pair of jeans you just bought? Yeah, you know what I'm talking about. And you know how it makes you smile - a genuine-heart-felt-from-deep-within smile? And then you walk away and find yourself still giving that goofy smile to the next person you see and they smile back at you? What if, for one day (heck, for an entire week), we all strove to pass that same feeling on to each other?
What would happen??
Would our kids behave better for us?
Would our bosses give us a raise? (or a bonus, or maybe just a really big "atta boy!"?)
Would our co-workers look forward to seeing us instead of trying to avoid us?
Would our neighbors invite us over for dinner?
Would our families want to spend the holidays with us?
Would Starbucks give us a discount? (Hey, a girl can dream, can't she?)
Would politicians enagage in intelligent debate instead of resorting to "hate" tactics? (Again, it's my dream, here)
Would religious leaders admit that, due to cultural differences, there is more than one way to worship God?
Would we be able to put an end to bullying?
What if you couldn't give anything else but a warm, sincere, smile and a compliment to someone this holiday season? Would it change the world around you?
Let's try it this week and see....
